I want you...

As per usual, I fell in love again today. This time with a chest of drawers from Kent and London.
If you buy me one of these for a measly £2700, for a whole year, I'll do your ironing, clean your bathroom and entertain you with my wit whilst I do so [fair trade, no?]

The rejects

While I sat in the park tonight, eating hot chips in 34.6 degree weather, I realised something about myself [don't you just love a good revelation?]
While I hand picked all the overcooked and odd shaped chips from the bag, I realised that I like the rejects in society.
The burnt chip, the worm nibbled apple, the social outcast...they're all the same.
I like the underdog, the less-desired, the so called loser, the nerd, the imperfect, the awkward, the misunderstood, the damaged, the bruised, the half-eaten, the overcooked and the broken.

Perhaps that is why I like handmade things so much...all the tiny imperfections are for me, perfection.

Thems Big Words...

Being someone who's passionate about words [and language in general] I've been meaning to put up this link for a while.

http://savethewords.org/

Go on, adopt a word today [please?]

I have adopted several words, two of which are:

'uglyography'
[bad handwriting]

Marion had uglyography ever since she was young, and eventually became the country's top doctor.

and

'woundikins'
[mild profanity]

She wouldn't tolerate woundikins, so little Jimmy's cry of 'poopydrawers' soon upset the kindergarten teacher.

Pretty as a Word

There are far too many fonts and images here for me to even begin putting them up.
This is just one of my favourites...

and while we're on the topic of fonts, here are two scripts I really like. I found them at i love typography

Moving On...

Today, for the first time in well over a decade, I stopped wearing my grandmothers wedding band.
It was left to me when she passed away at the ripe old age of 102.
I've always loved it, not only because of it's sentimentality, but because it's a lovely, simple, comfortable piece of jewellery.
I always thought that if I ever lost my better judgement and decided to marry some unsuspecting fool, I'd continue to wear it, [just on the other hand]
In fact, there was a time when I wore the band on my left hand, to see if people even took note of that sort of thing.
The women at the bank did...
When I departed for a six month around the world trip, they asked,
'Is your husband going with you?'
In more recent years, I have wondered, [even though I wear the band on my right hand] if people think I am married.
Apparently the Greeks and The Swedes wear their wedding bands on their right hand.
For some time I hid behind the ring, feeling it offered me some sort of protection.
Well today, after months of thought about who I am searching for in this life, I decided to cease wearing the ring.
It was a hard decision. Not only has it become part of my being, [attached to me if you will] but it has provided comfort, security, laughs, and memories.
I'm not sure what I am going to wear in its place...I don't imagine anything else, could ever fit quite so well.

*Gush

Hmmm, what can I say...
[I'd like one of each thanks]
These gorgeous bikes are thanks to my new friends http://www.copenhagencyclechic.com
They make me want to start a 'real' bike collection...

Spell it out for me...

Seeing as how my J is no longer relevant, I am in desperate need of an O, U, I, S, two T's, and another I.
A K would be very useful too, [if I'm going to make any use of my existing & and D]
You get me?
Didn't think so.

Word Whore

I love these vintage Tour De France cyclists from my favourite people, David Met Nicole.
I think they'd look just lovely, riding along my book shelves...

I love things with words on them...
I'm so ridiculous, sometimes I don't even care what the words say.
So long as the typography's good, and the spelling's correct, I'm sold
[who am I kidding, if it's decorative, I'll let the spelling slide]
I'm such a word whore.

Voyeuristic I am...

voyeur
vo.yeur [noun] one who is stimulated by watching sexual acts or naked bodies [especially in secret]; one who derives enjoyment from seeing misery or sordidness.

I am a voyeur.
I am very much interested in other peoples pain [and pleasure]
When I stumbled across Post Secret http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ some years ago, I was fascinated and excited that so many people were sharing their secrets. I relished devouring them, had my fill, and moved on.
Whilst I was checking out the new Mary Martin bookshop/cafe on The Parade the other day [that's a whole other blog entry] I spotted the first Post Secret book, and decided to buy it for myself as a birthday gift.
It is amazing how a book of secrets can make you feel normal, happy, sad, empathic, lonely, connected and not at all unique.
This book is possibly the best gift I have ever given myself...for so many reasons.
